Excerpt

You’ve heard the stories Cinderella, Snow White, The Princess and the Pea, and stories with many other fairy tale princesses. But this is the story of Raine, Princess of the Magical Forest in the land of Cambria, and how she became a real girl … well, almost.

At one time, fairies were tiny creatures, hardly ever seen by humans, and would go easily unnoticed. In fact, they were often mistaken as butterflies in the land of Cambria. But upon closer examination, one could see that they weren’t butterflies at all, but beautiful ladies and handsome gentlemen with lovely wings of many colors. Some had wings of white, others of red, blue, and green … just about every color of the rainbow was represented within the fairy community. But Raine’s wings were special; different from all other fairies. They shone iridescent in the sunlight, appearing in soft shades of pink at times and pale purple at other times, depending upon her mood. Her wings complemented her golden blonde hair, and iridescent fairy dust brushed across her pale cheeks. She was the royal princess, and her wings were special … almost as special as she.

Raine loved spending her time in the forest, hidden by man. Long ago in Cambria, before Raine’s time, men had captured fairies and forced them to use their magical abilities for their own selfish needs or wants. So, the fairies took to the Magical Forest and made their home there, safe and secure, hidden from the prying eyes of man.

Most fairies were afraid of humans—having heard the stories of their cruelty over the years—and stayed hidden deep in the forest. Sometimes, a human or two would catch a fleeting glimpse of what they thought to be a fairy, but the magical creature would fly off quickly, leaving the human to wonder if they had really seen a fairy or if their eyes were playing tricks on them. Usually, the humans vowed to have their eyes checked and then journeyed on their way, no more the wiser of what lay hidden in the depths of the Magical Forest.

But Raine wasn’t like other fairies; she was curious.

Nachos and Hash Blog Tour with Brandon Witt

blog-tour

I am delighted to host Brandon on his blog tour for Nachos and Hash. I’ve read it and loved every minute. I will be posting a review shortly, I simply didn’t have the time to prepare it in time for today, more’s the pity. It’s a five star read anyway.

Brandon did a lovely post below, where you can read all about this book and how it started. Before we start, though, I know Brandon loves his corgis so these pictures are for him. Aren’t they the cutest.

about-this-book

Nachos & Hash, and the entire novella series of Mary’s Boys is a different sort of project for me.  First, it’s novellas.  Second, they are the most strictly romantic stories I’ve written.  Obviously, I’ve written a lot of romances by this point, but there are always other storylines going on within the romance, at times even taking center stage over the romance.  With these stories, the romance is front and center at all times.

Because of this, we also wanted to play with the covers. Due to it being Hamburger Mary’s, it needed to be loud, fun, and over-the-top.  I specifically asked for glitter.  It also needed to be a little bit more romantic than my typical covers.

For this collaboration, AngstyG drew the short straw in getting to design the covers for me.  She was wonderful, even though I had to keep telling her how sorry I was that I kept asking for changes.  She was so patient that you’d think she was auditioning to be my boyfriend.   Literally, down to the capitol letters, I was like, can we try this now? And every time, she did.  She is my hero for the Mary’s Boys series.

Personally, I LOVE behind the scenes stuff, on nearly any topic.  I love seeing how things came to be.  So, I thought you might like to see the evolution of the Nachos & Hash cover.  The danger of this is you might like some of the early versions better.  But that’s okay.  You can pretend the one you like is the actual cover.

  1. Notice Cody’s ear. He’s not written with ear plugs, but when I saw the first version of the cover, I totally wished I could go back and write them in.  Cody would TOTALLY get ear plugs.  They fit him.  Alas, the cover comes at the end of edits.  But, from now on, I will see Cody with the plugs, in my mind.  But, I’m just amazed how seamlessly Agnsty G took care of the issues.  Cover artists are magic, I’m telling you!

One random person who comments will receive a $5 Amazon gift card!

about-the-author

Brandon Witt’s outlook on life is greatly impacted by his first eighteen years of growing up gay in a small town in the Ozarks, as well as fifteen years as a counselor and special education teacher for students with severe emotional disabilities. Add to that his obsession with corgis and mermaids, then factor in an unhealthy love affair with cheeseburgers, and you realize that with all those issues, he’s got plenty to write about….

Happy Release Day, Chris Ethan !!

I’ve one clicked already…congrats to Chris on his new release, and may he enjoy many sales.

unnamed-57

It’s Out! It’s Out, I tell you.

Jingle Spell, my Christmas novella is now out. Today is a special day for me, not only because I publish another title as Chris Ethan, but because it’s also my one year anniversary of being with my fiance, who inspired this book, hence the publication date. Without further ado, here is the final blurb and the Amazon link:

It’s the most horrible time of the year.
Smooches under mistletoes and tacky reindeer decorations.
Newly single, Davey has had enough of wasting his love and having his heart broken. Better to be single, he decides. No more dates. No more falling in love. No more dreaming of happy ever afters. Those are for movies.
He’s resolute.
And then Avery steps into his life, bringing care, compassion, and tenderness in his path.
Davey’s so tempted to hope again. But can an online date and a brief encounter turn into anything other than an ephemeral sexual encounter?
Is there a future for them? Will Avery stay? And most importantly, can Davey bear to offer up his heart to the season’s love—just one more time?
A sweet romance by Chris Ethan, author of The Guy With The Suitcase.

Being Me Author Lunch event in London

event-banner

So, what do Susan Mac Nicol, Harper Fox, KC Wells, Sue Brown, Rhys Ethan, Aleksandr Voinov and RJ Scott have in common? Well, the answer is that they’ve all pooled their time and resources for one lucky person and their guest to join them at an intimate lunch event at a cosy, central London restaurant. You’ll both be wined and dined, there will be great goodie bags for you, and each one of these authors will sign a copy of a book you fancy having in your library.

Why are they doing this? One reason is they all love their readers. The other one is a little more serious. Susan Mac Nicol is a trustee for The Being Me Campaign — www.beingmecampaign.com — and this is one of the ways these authors are trying to help Susan raise money for the organisation. Susan’s fellow authors have been incredibly supportive giving her their time and contributing to the event. Ditto for the Being Me Campaign Chairwoman and co- founder, Tracy Shayler, who’ll be joining them at this dinner. So, there’ll be a table for eight set up for them- who will be the other two people who’ll be there for this evening of fun, food and laughter no doubt, and the opportunity to ask us anything you ever wanted to know about them, their books, the genre or the charity?

 dinner-table-1433494_1920

Pictures will be taken and there may even do some live streaming from the event.

The winner will be announced on the 22nd December, just in time for Christmas. Make sure you click the £5.00 donation sum if you’re only buying one. For every £5.00 you donate, you are entered into the draw again for the prize. There is only one winner chosen.

The competition is open to anyone all over the world of course because we didn’t want to discriminate. Logic tells us however flying in from abroad for this event might not be feasible. However, that’s your call if you donate* and you win!

We’re sorry that this event is limited to the UK but we didn’t see how we’d be able to facilitate this any other way.

There are some terms and conditions, and you can read them below. Please make sure you read and understand them because the organisers would hate you to be disappointed about anything. If you have any questions, please email susan@beingmecampaign.com

Beauregard Boudreaux is a native of New Orleans Louisiana, born and raised there, he never thought he would ever stray far from home. The untimely death of his first love left Beau lost, adrift, looking for a place as far away from the pain as possible. Initially, he came to New York to visit a friend, the city growing on him, so he decided to stay. His law degree comes in handy at the LGBT Center he runs, but his bar is his baby.William Richards grew up in Chicago, his family oddly normal and very accepting of his sexuality. Modeling paid the bills, gigs across the country as a model, male entertainer and a personal trainer giving him the opportunity to see the world. He hasn’t experienced loss or pain as Beau has, the common denominator between them is the loneliness. As All Cocks big, brooding bottom Connor, William has found friendship, family and an outlet for his craving to be more submissive than men of his size and stature usually are.

The two men are perfect for each other, their tastes and lives align and the writing seems to be on the wall. But Beau has a secret he shares with a choice few, a secret that not only threatens to keep them apart, it’s deadly. Determined to keep a wall between himself and William, Beau fights the attraction, pushes William away every time he steps closer. Can one man’s determination and strength be enough to tear down a wall that holds back decades of pain and darkness? And if he can, will either of them survive the flood?

Disclaimer: This book is the fictional story of a man living with HIV. I have put a lot of time and effort into presenting this story as true to fact as possible, without going into gory or gruesome detail. If this subject is a trigger for you, you may want to skip this read. But my hope is that you give Beau a chance to capture your heart as he has mine, and William’s.

Why I want to have tea with Susan -by Cody Kennedy

Morning everyone.  Happy Friday to you all.
This is a bonus post for Cody Kennedy and his book Thárros. He wrote a charming and informational post about the reasons he wanted to have tea with me. I read it, blushed greatly, because -really, he’s too sweet saying what he does – and thought I’d pop it on my blog for you all to read. I for one can’t wait for the opportunity to meet Cody face to face and have that cup of tea with him while we ponder the mysteries of the universe, the wisdom of unicorns, the 101 uses of glitter and curbing unruly parrot behaviour….
Tharros-Banner
Why I want to have tea with Susan

A very special thank you to Susan for showcasing me again today. It’s great to be here!

My newest book, Thárros, Book Two in the Elpida Series, and is a continuation of Christy and Michael’s story. It picks up where Ómorphi left off. The boys work to heal after Christy’s abduction and Michael’s daring rescue of him, and this story centers on the trial to prosecute Christy’s abuser and kidnapper, Yosef Sanna. It is understood that by writing books such as Ómorphi, Thárros, and Slaying Isidore’s Dragons, that I am revealed to be outspoken with respect male victims of sexual abuse and the lack of resources for them. I also write them in such a manner as to be readily transferrable to other mediums such as film.

Susan Mac Nicol is one of my favorite authors, and she and I constantly talk about single-handedly changing the world with a pen stroke. Though we love the craft of authorship, and wouldn’t trade it, we’re always looking toward the next advancement of humanity, the next form of media, the next frontier, so to speak. We’re active, we’re progressive, and we’re constantly moving forward with an eye toward the future.

By way of example, Susan joined and helped to develop the famously wonderful Divine Magazine, a place where you can find a bit of everything. Within a year of its creation, Divine Magazine roared to the forefront of media because of its relatable and timely content. This wouldn’t have happened without people behind it who knew what they were doing and Susan played a huge role as one of those people. She is dynamic!

Susan knows I’ve worked in film, and over the past couple of months, she and I have discussed ad nauseam the lack of progress with respect to LGBTQI characters in film. Recent media coverage about this issue is due in no small part to the article that appeared in the Hollywood Reporter: Disney, Paramount, and Warners Flunk GLAAD’s LGBT Film Report Card; and the article appearing in the Independent: Frozen 2: People are campaigning to make Elsa the first LGBT Disney princess. It goes without saying that we’d all like to see not only more LGBTQI characters in film, but more LGBTQI lead roles, and roles with more than 10 minutes of screen time. In order to effect such a change, we must not only assess risk and the present demand for such entertainment product, but we must mitigate risk by creating future demand. It takes a visionary to conceive of, foster, and implement the steps to create such demand, and Susan is one of those people. She is a visionary!
I can tell you from personal experience that, in order to be successful at ventures such as Divine Magazine and the production of film works, you must be driven. Regardless of your motivation, you must be focused, you must be solitary in that you do not allow yourself to be deterred, and you must aim your every action toward your goal—even if it is only to choose your battles wisely. Finally, you must not stop. Contrary to popular belief, timing is not everything, but it is critical. If you determine that it isn’t the right time for your venture, keep at it for the future!

What does this have to do with tea? Who wouldn’t want to have tea with Susan?!? Susan is dynamic! She is a visionary! She is a force of nature and I’m dying to have tea with her! In the meantime, go read our books!

About Cody

Cody is an award-winning author who lives, most of the time, on the West Coast of the United States. Raised on the mean streets and back lots of Hollywood by a Yoda-look-alike grandfather, Cody doesn’t conform, doesn’t fit in, is epic awkward, and lives to perfect a deep-seated oppositional defiance disorder. In a constant state of fascination with the trivial, Cody contemplates such weighty questions as If time and space are curved, then where do all the straight people come from? When not writing, Cody can be found taming waves on western shores, pondering the nutritional value of sunsets, appreciating the much-maligned dandelion, unhooking guide ropes from stanchions, and marveling at all things ordinary. Among many other awards, Omorphi was a runner up in the 2014 Rainbow Awards, and Slaying Isidore’s Dragons was a finalist in the 2015 Rainbow Awards. Cody does respond to blog comments and emails because, after all, it is all about you, the reader.

Dare to Hope Blog Tour- T M Smith

Dare to Hope
an All Cocks Story book 4
Virtual book tour

Tristan is the second oldest of the Brennan brothers and the odd man out. Most of the Brennan men have careers in law enforcement, but as a psychiatrist, Tristan chooses to help people in a different way. Quiet and restrained, he is content to hover in the background of his more gregarious brothers. Then he meets two men, each broken and damaged from losses beyond their control.

Gabriel Simenson is mourning his lover’s death. The random act of violence that took Gio’s life has left everyone at All Cocks reeling. The only thing keeping Gabe from drowning in misery is the friendship he’s forged with Micah, the newest model at All Cocks. He continues to struggle, and at the urging of his All Cocks family Gabe agrees to counseling with Tristan under one condition: Micah must go with him.

Micah Solo can relate to unbearable loss, having lost his leg and so much more in Iraq. The past two years he has been alone, adrift and vulnerable — the memories of war haunting his dreams, spilling over into his daily life. Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000039_00007]
Gabe sat on the small couch in the family room with Tristan across from him in Victor’s large black leather recliner. He took a few minutes to really look at Tristan while his attention was on the folder and stack of papers in his lap. Black hair, blue eyes and an ever present five o’clock shadow were the frame for Tristan’s handsome and expressive face. When he smiled his eyes lit up and the little laugh lines around his mouth and eyes crinkled. He carried the blend of Italian and Irish heritage in his features: fierce and commanding when he was angry or frustrated, light and beautiful when he was happy or amused. And those hands — Tristan had large hands with long, nimble fingers. Gabe wondered briefly how it would feel to walk into a room with Tristan guiding him, his hand resting in the middle of his back, laying claim with just a touch.

When Gio died, Gabe didn’t think he would ever look at another man again, much less be drawn to one. Now he was in the uncomfortable position of being drawn to two: Tristan and Micah. Both men had unknowingly played a large role in bringing Gabe back from the brink of insanity after the shooting. Now he found himself relying on them far more than he liked. Micah had been dealt a much heavier blow than Gabe by life, what with the war and the scars it left on his mind, body and soul. But he was ever-present and strong for Gabe.

Then there was Tristan. From the first time they met and Tristan challenged him to face the pain in the wake of losing his lover head on, Gabe had been not only drawn to but dependent on him. Tristan dropped the file folder on the coffee table in front of him with a loud thwack, making Gabe jump.

Release Day! Thárros by C. Kennedy is Out!

As well as being someone with a true passion for making the word a better place, and a person whom I admire and respect, Cody is also an epic story teller. His wonderfully evocative and emotional tale of Michael and Christy has brought me to tears before in the first book,  Omorphi, and I have no doubt that in Thárros, Cody will continue to do so again. And I most certainly can’t wait to re-read the first book again in preparation for the rich experience of finding out more about Michael and Christy’s journey in Thárros. (Even though I know it will lead to ugly crying.)
It’ll be worth it though.

Synopsis

As a member of a wealthy and influential family, Jaime “Jamie” Abello had his life mapped out. Being shipped off to LA with an insurance scam linked to his name was not part of his plan.

It had seemed so simple: pass the Philippines Medical Board Exam;practice in the family-owned and -controlled hospital; join the Board by age forty; and find a partner with whom he could settle down and be himself.

Instead, his father supplies him with a surfeit of money and dangerous secrets and sends him to a strange country.

The Pediatric Residency Program Jamie applies for brings him face to face with untouchable Program Director, Miles Kwon, whom Jamie soon finds to be a man of integrity and vision.

When tragedy strikes, Jamie finds himself falling deeper into depression. Unexpectedly, it’s Miles who helps him work through his pain.

Will Jamie ever experience a life with a loving partner, or will his father’s secrets cause him to lose everything he’s gained?

Back in Manila, I had been vomiting into the pail my private nurse was holding up for me when my father entered the room, accompanied by Letty. He rushed the nurse out the door while Letty took over pail duty.

“Jamie, you are leaving for LA once we get you out of here. Dr. Martinez has been instructed to clear you to be released from the hospital.” My father was succinct.

“Wha… why?” I tried to speak, but emesis got in the way.

“Margarita. She has finally gone off the deep end. She and your brothers are meeting with the board. I sent in my resignation last night and they only just got the email. I am leaving for Morocco in two hours, and you are flying out as soon as Dr. Martinez gives you something to put a stop to your vomiting. Letty has sent all the details to your alternate email account.”

I tried to sit up, confused about what was going on, but Letty pressed me back onto the bed. I squinted up at her, and then at my father. “What’s going on?”

“Everything is in the email I sent you. Don’t think about anything else right now, just focus on getting well enough to stand without falling on your face. You need to take that flight. It’s going to be a long one and you’ll need your energy to get things moving,” Letty said.

“Call me once you get to LA. I will send you an email with my new contact numbers.” My father sighed and ran his hand over his face. “I won’t see you for a long time, hijo, but you need to get out as quickly as you can. It’s best you don’t know anything until you get there. Letty will get in touch with you as soon as you’re settled in the hotel. Remember: get to LA and follow the instructions. Once you’re done, call me. That’s all you need to know for now.”

My father leaned down to kiss my head, but wrinkled his nose and shook my hand instead. He turned to leave, then hesitated. Returning to my side, he closed his mouth, as if not daring to breathe in, and then bent to hug me. “I love you, hijo. I wish I could explain more but there’s so little time. I’ll see you on the other side,” he said as he patted my back. Then he turned away, avoiding my eyes, and left the room.

About the author

JO TANNAH is a wife, mother, and blogger by day, writer by night. It can be difficult to say the least but it is a challenge that keeps her on her toes.

She grew up listening to folktales her father and nannies spun to either entertain the children or send home a message. These narratives stayed with Jo until she finally decided to write them down in a journal way back when she kept one. Years later, going through junk led to finding a long forgotten box and nestled within it was the journal. Reading over the stories of romance, science fiction, and horror that she had taken time to put to paper all those years before brought to light the realization that they were tales she’d never come across in her readings.

The tales Jo write are fictional but all of them are based on what she grew up with and still dreams about. That they have an M/M twist is simply for her pleasure. And she hopes, yours as well.
